Nkaissery Orders Prosecution of Perpetrators of Jubilee Elections Violence

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has promised to take stern action against leaders accused of inciting violence during the ongoing Jubilee Party grass root elections.

Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony in Kajiado, Nkaissery ordered that he be presented with names of all those suspected to have participated in the chaos experienced in different counties.

The Minister further directed County Commissioners whose areas experienced skirmishes during Jamhuri Day Celebrations to also submit details of those implicated for appropriate action to be taken.

A tough-talking Nkaissery insisted that politicians would not be allowed to continue inciting the youth especially as the General Election approaches.

“We don’t want to go back to the post-election violence of 2007 and 2008. If people can fight during interim elections, what will happen during party nominations and the General Election?” he posed.

At the same time, the CS said the government had purchased high-tech gadgets to help trace leaders posting inflammatory remarks on social media.

Election of Jubilee interim officials has continually been marred by ugly scenes across the country as aspirants and supporters clashed amid allegations of unfairness during the polls.

The violent scenes have been experienced in areas of Mombasa, Naivasha, Nyeri, Embu, Nakuru, Nyandarua among others.

In most of the areas, the party has been accused of favouring certain candidates or using unethical means to influence the outcomes.
