A nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Mombasa on Monday died while receiving cancer treatment in India.
Sarah Nyamvula, who was suffering from Lymphoma Cancer, had flown to the South Asian country on December 29, 2016, for further treatment
According to her family, plans were underway to have the body transported home for burial.
Ms Nyamvula had earlier expressed interest in Mombasa Women Representative seat to fight for women's rights in the County.
"Women are calling me telling me that they have to pay at least 300 shillings in order to register births. Why is this the case yet it is a government service?" she earlier questioned.
The nominated MCA had also vowed to mobilise women to challenge men in the next poll.
"I have seen women willing to vie for different political seats, let them not be afraid, we want to see women contest for the Member of Parliament seats, Ward representatives and even governor’s seats,” Nyamvula was quoted.
