One person died as several passengers were injured on early Sunday morning after a bus they were travelling in was involved in a multi-vehicle accident at Bukembe, Bungoma County.
The crash, which occurred at around 4am on July 20, involved a Greenline bus ferrying over 65 passengers from Nairobi to Bungoma, a saloon car, a trailer, and a lorry.
The bus was forced to veer off the road, landing on its side. Images and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed passengers crying and scrambling to escape the wreckage. Some had to be assisted by locals and fellow passengers to exit the bus through the windows.
According to eyewitnesses, the initial collision took place near Roja Village Resort when a private vehicle collided head-on with a bread delivery truck.
The driver of the private car died on the spot, while a female passenger in the saloon car sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Several injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals using motorbikes, as ambulances only arrived at the scene around 7am.
Rescue teams and eyewitnesses criticised the delayed emergency response from local health facilities.

On June 3, several police officers died after their patrol car collided with a trailer at Matisi, along the Bungoma-Webuye Highway.
According to reports, the two vehicles collided, and the police car was completely damaged.
