Nurses Ask Uhuru to Sack Health CS Cleopa Mailu

The Kenya National Union of Nurses has warned President Uhuru Kenyatta and asked him to immediately sack Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu and Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri.

The Union on Tuesday told the Head of State to have the two dismissed blaming them for the deaths of patients during the ongoing countrywide strike that started on Monday.

The nurses were speaking during the continuing negotiations between the government and the medical practitioners' representatives to have the industrial action called off.

At the same time, they demanded that Mailu and Muraguri be kicked out of the dialogue team for claiming the Union never signed a Recognition Agreement with Counties.

They accused the government of being insincere in the talks where they have insisted on having their 300 per cent pay rise demand effected.

The strike has paralysed operations in all public hospitals with patients continuing to suffer across the country for lack of medical care.

By Tuesday, reports pointed at close to 14 patients having passed on with thousands of others being turned away from hospitals forcing them to seek help in private facilities.

Despite the eventualities, the medics insisted that they would not resume their duties until the demands are met, insisting that Kenyans deserved to be treated by adequately paid doctors.
