Nyamira Senator Kennedy Okong’o Mong’are Admits to Smoking Bhang

Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong’are, who is also eyeing the presidency in the upcoming August 8 Elections, shocked the senate on Wednesday when he admitted to smoking bhang.

The senators were debating a petition seeking to legalise the use of the banned Cannabis Sativa (bhang) plant in Kenya when Mr Mong'are made the revelations.

"It doesn't mean that if the plant is legalised, it will destroy lives. It depends on with the level of indulgence. As a juvenile, I used it. I was also in India where the plant is legalised but it is vital if people are disciplined. You can choose not to use it," said Okong’o.

The senator continued and told the house that the plant ought to be allowed by the government but with strict regulations on how to use it.

The senators, who appeared baffled by Mr Okongo, questioned whether the bhang he had smoked could have informed his decision to run for the presidency.

The Nyamira senator refuted the allegations stating, " I used to use it some time ago. It didn't inform my decision to contest for the presidency."
