ODM Apologises to Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has been forced to make an urgent apology following a mistake made in one of its statement.

Through its Communications Director Philip Etale, the party extended its apology to Homa Bay deputy governor Hamilton Orata for claiming that he had been reprimanded and banned from holding any post in the party.

The Orange party noted that Mr Orata was not the subject of the punishment clarifying that the person affected was the County Youth Leader, Kevin Ouma.

“We erroneously indicated that the Central Committee of the party had agreed that H.E. Hamilton Orata, who is the Deputy Governor of Homabay County be reprimanded and banned from holding any elective or appointive Party office.

“We apologise to Mr. Orata and the people of Homabay County for the inconvenience caused,” read the statement.

ODM on Friday divulged that it had taken action against a number of leaders accused of propagating violence during a 2016 event, where Homa Bay Township MP Peter Kaluma exchanged blows with another leader, Washington Ogaga, in the presence of party leader Raila Odinga.

Following investigations into the incident, ODM's Central Committee ruled that Kaluma and Ogaga should pay a fine of Sh100,000.

The party further recommended that others implicated including Women rep Gladys Wanga and Governor Cyprian Awiti be “severely reprimanded and undertake not to perpetrate, sponsor, support or be associated with any acts of violence or disruption before, during or after the forthcoming elections".
