ODM Nominations in Bungoma and Busia Delayed as Supporters Complain of Foul Play

Tension has peaked in Bungoma and Busia Counties where Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations were set to kick off Thursday morning.

In Bungoma, agitated locals protested after it emerged that they could only participate in the primaries if they had ODM membership cards.

The supporters, who have vowed to disrupt the exercise, claim they had earlier been told they could use their national Identity Cards or the voter's card issued by the IEBC.

"We have no idea what membership cards are, we were not issued with them," one supporter explained.

They claimed that the membership cards were issued at night by aspirants who had bribed the voters.

In Busia, Governor Sospeter Ojaamong told reporters that despite having organised for the ballot papers to arrive at the polling station by 6am, he was shocked to find out that they had not been delivered.

Ojaamong further complained that there was no Presiding Officer in sight three hours later.

The Presiding Officer in Busia, Mr Justin Bwire, confirmed that delays in starting the primaries were caused by a discrepancy on the names written on the ballots for two parliamentary hopefuls.

The Officer noted that the issue had since been resolved and instructed the waiting voters on how to proceed.
