ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga Condemns Kuki Gallmann's Shooting

Opposition Chief Raila Odinga condemned the shooting of conservationist Kuki Gallmann saying ranch owners deserve protection like all other Kenyans as they contribute to the country's growth.

The former Prime Minister demanded immediate action by the government to restore order in Laikipia County.

In a statement to the press, he termed the incident "unfortunate".

"The National Super Alliance (NASA) strongly condemns the attack on the conservationist (Kuki Gallmann).

"We demand that the government immediately asserts control and brings these acts of hooliganism to an end," the statement read.

According to her daughter, Ms Sveva Makena, her mother was shot in the stomach and was airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

Confirming the incident, area police boss Ezekiel Chepkwony said that Ms Kuki was patrolling her ranch on Sunday morning when she was shot in the stomach by the herders who had laid an ambush at Damu Nyekundu area.

Kuki, who is of Italian origin, is an elite ranch owner and a renowned author.

In April, illegal herdsmen believed to be from Baringo County burnt down The Mukutan Retreat, a luxury safari lodge owned by Gallmann in Laikipia West.
