One MP Denied Entrance to Obama’s Kasarani Address

All Members of Parliament except one received personal invitation to attend President Obama’s nation address at the Safaricom Indoor Arena, Kasarani.

K24 reports that the said MP has been denied entrance to the address following an ongoing rape case against him in court.

The MPs are said to have received personal invites from the US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec, much to the displeasure of National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi.

Muturi has accused Godec overlooking his office by directly sending invites to individual MPs.

He said Godec ignored protocol and should have used his office to make the invitations.

The Nation reports that some MPs had expected Obama to address them in parliament.

US security officers had been seen visiting Parliament several times, causing many to speculate that President Obama would address the MPs and senators in parliament.

Some MPs have, however, threatened to boycott the address in Kasarani.

Ainamoi MP Benjamin Langat criticized the embassy for making personal invitation to the legislators instead of using the speaker or the clerks, and said he will turn down the invitation.

All senators have also been reportedly invited to the address.
