Opposition Chief Raila Odinga has condemned the brutal shooting of the suspected gangsters in Eastleigh on Friday.
In a video that went viral, two suspected gangsters were shot dead in broad daylight as members of the public watched on.
The video sparked various reactions as some condemned the merciless killing of the two while others lauded the efforts of police in curbing crime in the city.
Odinga has strongly criticised the brutality shown by police in the video, terming it as shocking and inhuman.
“Yale ambayo tuliona kule Eastleigh ni maajabu. Polisi, mbele ya wananchi anachukua bunduki na anapiga risasi mtu aliye chini! Yule ni binadamu ama yule ni mnyama?”
Loosely translated: "What we saw in Eastleigh is shocking. Police shooting someone who is already on the ground. Is that a human being or an animal?"
He also claimed that the police must have been acting upon orders from Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and Inspector General Joseph Boinett.
“Hiyo ni tabia ya polisi wa Jubilee. Hivyo ndio wamefunzwa na Bwana Nkaissery na Bwana Boinett,” he remarked.
The former Prime Minister also condemned the shooting that took place at State House, saying the slain man should have been apprehended instead of being shot yet he only had a knife.
He further alleged that the police were operating under shoot-to-kill orders.
The killings in Eastleigh and State House have drawn widespread reactions, which have led to Boinett calling for a probe into the matter.
Police Commander Japheth Koome, however, stood by the officers, saying the Eastleigh thugs were suspected to have killed a police officer.
