Opposition Leaders to Unveil New Team That Will Choose NASA Presidential Candidate

Opposition leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi have announced that they will unveil a new team on Tuesday that will choose the presidential flagbearer.

Addressing the press on Monday, the Opposition leaders stated that the new team will pick the flagbearer for the newly launched National Super Alliance (NASA).

The opposition had earlier announced that they would unveil the flag bearer by the end of February after unveiling NASA.

According to a report published by a local daily last week, a team of 12 was drawn from all parties in the Opposition and has been working on the structures and selection of a joint presidential candidate.

“The deliberations are almost complete. By next month, they will have agreed on a candidate to unveil to Kenyans next month. We know our supporters are anxious but we want to give them the best candidate,” a source privy to the opposition's arrangements told the Standard.

The source further disclosed that ODM, Wiper, Ford Kenya and ANC had provided two technocrats to the technical committee while the other 15 smaller parties in the alliance were given 4 slots.

“This is a team of 12 highly respected technocrats in various fields, a majority of them not politicians. They are tasked with working on structures of NASA as a coalition and modalities of a politically cost-effective method of nominating the Nasa presidential candidate,” the source said.

Opposition leaders Odinga, Musyoka, Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Wetang’ula are the candidates expected to battle it out for the NASA ticket.
