Opposition MPs Plan to Snub President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State of the Nation Address

Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) are reportedly plotting to skip President Uhuru Kenyatta's State of the Nation address in Parliament slated for tomorrow.

The leaders on Monday claimed that the President had failed to deliver on his promises to the country, therefore, there was no need to be present at the address.

“There is nothing we can be told because we know nothing has been achieved by the Jubilee regime. You cannot talk about achievements when you have doctors and lecturers on strike. Other civil servants are threatening to go on strike. We have corruption in every corner of the country.” Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama indicated.

ODM chairman John Mbadi emphasised that the cost of living had gone up and the Uhuru administration had failed to tackle corruption, insecurity and famine, hence, there was no need to attend the address.

Unguja MP Opiyo Wandayi on his part indicated that the State of the Nation address had lost its meaning as the president used the forum to spread Jubilee’s propaganda.

“It’s a mockery of our democracy and constitutionalism. I’ll not bother listening to his address,” he highlighted.

HomaBay County Woman Rep Gladys Wanga mentioned that she cannot listen to a President who goes around insulting Kenyans.

Last year, the opposition MPs disrupted the State of the Nation address by blowing whistles and chanting all over the house.

The legislators have, however, indicated that they will respect the decision of the coalition to either attend or boycott the address.
