Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Aspirants Clash Ahead of Party Primaries

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) loyalists in Kilifi County, Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa and Malindi Member of Parliament William Mtengo have exchanged bitter words following their rivalry to gain the party ticket for the Malindi parliamentary bid.

The two leaders exchanged insults as they both sought votes for the seat with Mr Mtengo referring to Ms Jumwa as a foreigner with little knowledge of the constituency.

"Malindi people cannot elect a foreigner. Everyone knows where she came from and the electorate are not so blind to elect someone who was not born here and who knows nothing about the plight of the Malindi people," Mtengo claimed.

Ms Jumwa was key in the election of Mr Mtengo during a March 2016 by-election but soon shifted allegiance and vowed to go for the seat.

The woman Representative says she wanted to oust Mr Mtengo so that she could change the lives of the Malindi people.

ODM Vice Chairman in the region Teddy Mwambire on Monday stated that plans and arrangements for the primaries slated for Wednesday had been finalized.

" We are set to go and everything is in place. We have assured all our aspirants that the exercise will be conducted in a free and fair manner. We want every ODM member to participate in the exercise," the official emphasized.
