Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Chairman John Mbadi Facing Arrest

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairman, John Mbadi was on Tuesday issued with a police ultimatum to record a statement in 24 hours or face arrest over violence witnessed at his rally on Monday.

The Suba Member of Parliament's political meeting in Homa Bay County ended in violent protests and resulted in two people suffering serious injuries.

County Police Commander John Omusunga said that the politician would be held accountable since he had not notified the police of the planned rally and had not honoured the summons as yet.

However, Mbadi denied accusations that he had not notified the police of the rally adding that he was not aware of any clashes that had taken place.

"I addressed my rally very peacefully. If some youths engaged in a fight, they did so over their own issues," the ODM Chairman told The Star.

The MP accused the police of being partisan claiming that perpetrators of violence in the ruling party were not being summoned for the same.

"We don’t want police to look like they are taking sides. My convoy has been attacked several times but they have done nothing," he claimed.

The Police boss later extended the validity of the summons issuing a stern warning to politicians.

"We are not going to tolerate any politician who perpetrates violence in the county. Let him record a statement with police before Thursday midday," the police boss warned.
