It was siezed in April last year and was believed to be part of vessels being used in an elaborate drug smuggling operation along the African coast.

The owner's lawyer told The Star that the governemnt broke the law by destroying the luxurious yatch.

The lawyer who refused to reveal the identity of the owner said, he (the owner) had written to the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions two months prior, informing them of his ownership of the vessel.

He argues that the government was wrong not to wait the court's decision on September 16 whether destruction was authorised or not.

The office of the DPP, however, says they had not received any letter from the owner and was yet to know his identity.

The vessel was the second of its kind destroyed by the army, as directed by the governmnet.

Last year, President Uhuru Kenyatta oversaw the destruction of yet another yatch siezed carrying drugs.

The president reitarated that his government was committed to fighting drug abuse in the country.

He expressed worry over the drug addiction among Kenyan youth, especially those from the coastal region.
