Pastor Rejected Sh40 Million Bribe to Fix Uhuru at ICC

A clergyman who was initially a leader of the outlawed Mungiki sect has reportedly disclosed that the International Criminal Court (ICC) had offered him a Sh40 Million bribe to testify against President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Hague-based court.

Former Mungiki leader Ndura Waruinge disclosed that in 2009, as the ICC was building its case against six Kenyan leaders, the offer was proposed to him by a prominent city lawyer who was the link between him and ICC.

“I was offered Sh40 Million to be on the side of the prosecution,” said Ndura, as quoted by the Nairobian, adding that he was also told to choose a European country of his choice where he was to live with his family.

Ndura, who is now the leader of Miracle Valley International Church in Kenya, claimed that the ICC desperately needed him since other witness testimonies the court was banking on were marred by inconsistencies.

“ICC thought I would be a better alternative. They knew I understood Mungiki operations very well despite having left the sect,” claims Ndura.

The preacher further discloses that as he was being wooed to nail Kenyatta at the ICC, he was allegedly flown to a South African country where he gave his side of the story.

The former high ranking Mungiki leader expressed that after a thorough soul searching, he rejected the ICC offer – Sh40 Million and a good life abroad.

Following his decision to reject the offer, the Miracle Valley Church leader stated that a series of intimidation incidents came by.

In one incident, he stated that he was beaten up by raiders who stormed his Ngong residence, adding that, “the furious attackers demanded to know why I had refused to be on their side”.

He later became a defence witness, where he wrote a statement exonerating Uhuru from the Naivasha and Nakuru violence, in which the Head of State had been accused of funding retaliatory attacks.

Ndura reiterated his stance that he had at no point been an ICC witness, maintaining that it was the media which misrepresented and distorted his words.

“I never had the intention of supporting the prosecution, instead I meant I will side with Uhuru,” Ndura defended himself.

The new revelations come after all the accused Kenyan leaders were finally liberated from crimes against humanity charges they were facing at the ICC.

Deputy President William Ruto and Journalist Joshua Sang were the last to get the ICC millstone off their necks.

President Kenyatta overcame the ICC hurdle on December 5, 2014.
