PHOTOS: Kenyan Millionaire Pays Dearly for Slapping Wife

A Kenyan mechanical engineer, whose net worth was in millions while residing in the United States, lost his entire fortune for slapping his wife.

Peter Ndirangu assaulted his wife in 2010 while living in the US, an offence that got him put behind bars for six months.

Upon his release, Mr Ndirangu was deported with none of his properties and is now languishing in poverty at Nakuru's London Estate.

The deportee, who has been surviving by selling pancakes for Sh5, expressed that constant arguments with his Kenyan wife characterised his 11-year stay in the US.

Lack of children was the major cause of their disputes and it was during one such argument that he lost his temper and slapped the unidentified wife.

He was then arrested and charged despite his efforts to have the case settled outside court. However, the wife's Nigerian lawyer insisted the matter be solved by judicial means.

Ndirangu was deported with only Sh3,400 he had earned while in a Texas prison leaving behind his entire investments.

“I left Sh7 Million in my bank account when I was deported,” Ndirangu is quoted by K24.

The 48-year-old said that he had his own house valued at Sh7.9 Million.

“On arrival in the US with my wife, I secured a job as a security guard and later joined IATA for driving courses. I worked with several companies as a truck driver earning Sh26,700 to Sh44,500 a day,” he narrated.

Ndirangu, who is now a laughingstock of the community, said that he left behind vehicles worth Sh12 Million among other properties.

Since his deportation, Ndirangu says he has never heard from his wife. He now resides next to one of the largest dumpsites in Nakuru where he pays a monthly rent of Sh1, 500.

“When I have time I talk to young people where I tell them that nothing they do to another human being goes unpunished. Our judicial system is not as strict as the US one, but you never get away with harming another human being,” he says.
