First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Friday thrilled her audience in the US, by delivering a touching speech regarding the Beyond Zero campaign.
Mrs Kenyatta received a standing ovation from business and political representatives, when she explained why she decided to run marathons in her pirsuit to save Kenyan women and children from needless maternity and early deaths respectively.
According to a report by the Presidential Press, the First Lady who was speaking in the State of Arizona, said that she could have chosen to sit back and enjoy the comfort coming with her position, but decided to save lives by taking part in the exhausting races.
“I have literally been running marathons and I can understand if that doesn’t immediately strike you as behaviour befitting the wife of a Head of State, but I assure you, it has all been for the greater good,” said Mrs Kenyatta.
It is reported that the First Lady's powerful speech moved part of the audience to tears, which then rose up to applaud her job upon concluding the address.
The event was a fundraiser attended by about 1500 supporters and sponsors of the Beyond Zero initiative.
