PHOTOS: MCA's House Burnt

A Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Kiambu County is counting losses after her property was razed down by an angry mob.

The Sunday morning incident was allegedly sparked by a fierce inferno that burnt down goods in Madaraka Market, in Thika, causing losses worth Millions.

Angry traders who suspected that the MCA was part of the plot to kick them out of the market, allegedly went to avenge their loss by burning down her house.

The Ward Representative for Kamenu, was reportedly giving a speech at the market to condole with the traders before she got the news that her house was on fire.

“We have been in a meeting so as to address the traders, but we have just cut it short after the skirmishes began. They have torched the MCA’s house and the vehicle that was parked outside. Nothing has been saved,” Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Secretary Sam Chege, who is also the Madaraka market secretary was quoted in a media report.

Anti-riot police who arrived at the scene were, however, unable to pacify the situation but promised to prevent further demonstrations in the area.

“The fire was an unfortunate incident which the fire brigade did not respond to but we are now on high alert,” said Makongeni OCS Samuel Khisa.

According to Madaraka market security guards, over 300 youth raided the market with the help of Utawala police officers and used kerosene to raze down the entire retail, which is the largest in Thika.

This comes one month after a Nakuru MCA, Lucy Kihumba, incurred a Sh40 Million loss after her house was set ablaze by unknown assailants. The incident occured amid rivalry among Members of the County cssembly but it was yet to be proven whether the politics may have led to the arson attack.
