First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Tuesday received gifts from Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan who was her guest at State House in Nairobi.
Ms Erdogan handed Kenyatta 24 automated wheelchairs for beneficiaries earlier identified by the Kenya National Council of Persons with Disabilities.
Speaking at State House, Ms Kenyatta expressed her gratitude towards the gesture by Ms Erdogan, stating that the wheelchairs would positively contribute to the lives of the recipients.
“I am truly happy to be receiving these automated wheelchairs and I’m confident that they will help many Kenyans who are in different stages of life, dealing with different kinds of disability—both temporary and permanent,” Ms Kenyatta stated.
The Turkish First Lady commended Ms Kenyatta for her sincerity in uplifting the lives of the less fortunate, adding that her country considered Kenya to be a partner.
“Although the two countries are far apart geographically, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency has established the bridge for us to cooperate,” Erdogan said.
According to the Kenyan market, the automated wheelchair price start at about Sh100,000 and above.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife jetted into the country on Wednesday evening for a three-day state visit.
