Police Boss Shot Dead in Mihang'o

A senior police officer was on Wednesday morning killed following a deadly shooting in Nairobi's Mihang'o estate.

Assistant Superintendent Eston Ndegwa is said to have been heading home at around 2am when he was accosted and reportedly carjacked by gangsters.

The senior officer, who was serving at the Administration Police headquarters, was then led towards his residence in Mihang'o where the criminals shot him twice in the chest.

Nairobi Police commandant Japheth Koome confirmed the incident stating that they were yet to establish the motive of the murder.

Locals say they heard gunshots at about 2 am. We don’t know if the shooting happened there or elsewhere but he was headed to his local residence,” he asserted.

According to witnesses, Ndegwa's car was discovered with the engine running close to an hour after the incident. Another car believed to have been used to trail the deceased was also found at the scene.

The region has in the past experienced a wave of crime and killings by brutal gunmen with several incidents being reported.

Earlier in the year, an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader was killed after being accosted by gangsters outside his home in the adjacent Ruai estate.

Stephen Mukabana was waiting for the gate to be opened when the six assailants attacked, shot him in the head and stomach before disappearing with his mobile phone and wallet.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, a passenger was reportedly shot dead and a driver seriously wounded in another case of carjacking in Kabete, Kiambu County.
