Police Officer Detained for Shooting Colleague

A police officer has been detained for 15 days at Kilimani Police Station for reportedly shooting and killing his colleague.

Mr Abdullahi Waqo was Monday arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts for allegedly murdering Robert Isaboke on Thursday during an argument over a bottle of beer in Highrise, Nairobi,.

Waqo is said to have walked into a bar at around 11pm on the fateful night and demanded to be served with a bottle of beer, which the waiters declined, as the bar was closing.

The bar attendants, who recorded statements with the police, said the two broke into a fist fight before the suspect pulled out his gun and shot the deceased on the head.

Nairobi CID boss Ireri Kamwende had earlier confirmed Waqo's arrest before he appeared in court on Monday.  Upon killing his colleague, Waqo, who is based at Capitol Hill Police, escaped the scene in a toyota car (Probox) which was later found abandoned in Kitengela.

Details of the deceased showed that he was an undercover police officer based at Pangani Police Station.

A similar incident happened last year in Kakamega, when a police officer shot a partner after failing to agree on sharing the collected bribe.
