Police Officer Shoots KCSE Invigilator Inside Exam Room

A rare incident was witnessed on Thursday morning after a police officer shot an invigilator in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in Siaya County.

Simon Ongiti was shot in the arm and leg by sergeant Benson Asesa as he sealed KCSE papers.

The incident happened on Thursday at 10:45am in Gagra Secondary school just after the students finished the morning paper.

Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Coordinator Chripus Mutali divulged that Ongiti was rushed to Bondo sub-county hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Mutali said that they had launched investigations to determine whether the shooting was 'accidental or intentional'.

"The officer has already recorded a statement. We are waiting to identify the degree of the injury before the teacher can file a case," Mutali stated.

Asesa was withdrawn from the examination room and recorded a statement over the incident.
