Police Officer Swallows Sh2000 in Mombasa After Ambush by EACC Detectives

A police officer in Mombasa is said to have swallowed Sh2000 which he had collected from a tuk tuk operator to avoid being arrested.

The officer attached to the Kisauni Dog Unit was ambushed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives while soliciting for the money but vanished before he was arrested.

According to EACC regional boss George Ojowi, the officer was caught red-handed asking for bribe despite not being in the traffic department.

“He took off with the money and swallowed it to hide the evidence, but we are following up with his seniors and we will catch up with him.

“Officers from the dog section are not entitled to traffic work and we will want to know why he was on the road taking bribes,” he stated.

Ojowi indicated that his team had launched a man hunt for the suspect who he said had switched off his phone and disappeared from his workstation.

He added that they were collecting necessary information regarding the officer with the help of area police commanders to ensure he is arrested.
