Police Officers Hit in Bomb Attack

Two police officers were injured in a landmine attack believed to have been planned by Al-Shabaab militants.

The officers were on patrol in two vehicles when they ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) along Lafety-Fino road in Mandera

Other reports suggest that the number of officers injured could have been higher.

Laftey OCPD Bosita Omukolongolo confirmed the attack which happened on Saturday morning, adding that the officers were treated and discharged.

"The officers in the first vehicle suffered slight injuries and were treated at Fino health centre. They are in stable condition,” Mr Omukolongolo was quoted by the Daily Nation.

On the other hand, North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamed Saleh stated the Al-Shabaab militants were trying to make a comeback in the region with such explosive devices.
