On Friday, April 26, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a suspected drug trafficker in the Thika area of Kiambu County.

The arrest happened after the detectives conducted a search on a bus travelling from Moyale to Nairobi, uncovering several sachets suspected to contain cocaine concealed under the inner soles of the suspect’s shoe.

The operation, spearheaded by detectives from the anti-narcotics department, was initiated following a tip-off from an anonymous source who alerted the officers to the incident.

“Acting on intelligence information, anti-narcotics detectives augmented by the Operations Support Unit intercepted the bus at the Blue Post section of Thika, conducting a search that saw a 24-year-old arrested,” detectives noted.

“The suspect is currently in the custody of JKIA-ANU officers pending egestion of the swallowed sachets and further legal procedures," read part of a statement by detectives.

The latest arrest by the officers comes even as detectives intensify their crackdown on drug traffickers and peddlers across the country.
