Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a passionate call for Kenyans to protect national assets and resist what he describes as threats to the country's sovereignty ahead of the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Speaking on behalf of the United Opposition on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Kalonzo challenged Kenyans to defend critical infrastructure, including pipelines, airports, companies, and financial institutions, from alleged takeover attempts.

"We call on every citizen, every institution, every civil society organisation, and every community to rise. Protect our pipelines, our airports, our companies, and our financial institutions," Kalonzo declared.

The opposition leader also accused the government of orchestrating electoral malpractice during the November 27, 2025 by-elections which were declared to have been marred by malpractice by observers from the Kenya Human Rights Commission and the Elections Observers Group (ELOG).

He demanded immediate action against individuals allegedly involved in electoral offences. He went ahead to mention Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, Kakamega County MP Elsie Muhanda, former CS Rashid Echesa, Presidential aide Faruk Kibet and PS Beatrice Inyangala as some of the top figures behind the electoral offences.

Kalonzo also criticized the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Erastus Ethekon for declaring the by-elections free and fair despite widespread concerns from election observers.

The opposition further raised alarm over the government's handling of the ongoing drought crisis, accusing authorities of diverting relief food and items, such as rice, beans, blankets, and mattresses, to bribe voters in Malava and Mbeere North constituencies instead of assisting affected families.

"Kenya is facing a severe drought. Yet this regime chose to use relief food to bribe voters, leaving the real drought victims exposed without state support," he stated.

The United Opposition pledged that national assets belong to the people and will never be sold without consent, warning against what they termed "Rutopreneurship, Rutobottomship and Rutoism."

Kalonzo urged Parliament to pass the National Disaster Risk Management Bill, which is currently under consideration, and demanded the immediate commencement of an animal off-take programme to prevent further livestock losses in pastoral communities.

Kalonzo's Jamhuri Day message ended with a pledge to defend national assets and constitutional rule.

"Kenya shall not be sold. Kenya shall not be auctioned. Kenya shall not be recolonised," Kalonzo stated, calling for courage and unity to honour the legacy of independence.
