Police Officers Pretending to be Kenya Power Technicians Beaten

Two Administrative Police (AP) officers attached to the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) unit were attacked by an angry mob in Kamulu, Ruai, for masquerading as Kenya Power technicians on a routine check.

Okello Hassan Juma and Hussein Mohammed Hassan reportedly went to the home of one David Opere Otieno on May 16, 2016, at around 8pm where they posed as technicians from the power company but did not have any identification documents to show.

After failing to prove that they were from the electricity distributor, they immediately changed their story and revealed that they were police officers.

The home owner who was then convinced that they were lying, raised an alarm attracting neighbours who descended on the two officers reportedly attached at Kenyatta University main campus.

The APs were battered mercilessly before they were rescued by their colleagues patrolling the area.

According to a report by the Standard, the two had a getaway saloon car parked a few metres from their target house which sped off from the scene.

“We have been informed that a gang operating in a similar style stole Sh51,000 from a neighbouring home in the area. The description of the car the robbers used fits the one that sped from this second incident. We are looking for the female driver of the car,” a senior officer was quoted by the Standard.

The two officers were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital where Juma died while his counterpart Mohammed is still nursing injuries.
