Police Respond to Exam Leakage Claims

The National Police Service has dismissed claims that they were involved in facilitating dishonesty in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

This follows Education Committee Chair Sabina Chege's allegations that police officers were linked to the rampant exam leakeages that have defined the current exams. She claimed that officers guarding the transportation of examination materials opened the papers, photographed them and circulated to candidates at a fee.

In a press statement, the law enforcers indicated that the serious allegations made by senior politicians were false and ought not to be taken casually.

They added that they had been accused cheaply and insisted that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission should demand evidence from the said politicians for investigation purposes.

The Police also emphasised that the accusations were baseless as they were only involved in storing the papers, which they delivered to various schools while securely sealed. The statement also outlined that students and invigilators confirmed the seals once the papers reached the institutions.

Last Week, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) stated that the questions on nabbed papers were not genuine but confirmed that five teachers and several university students had been arrested for propagating examination malpractices.

The Council's boss, Joseph Kivilu, has been under pressure to suspend the examinations, a suggestion he firmly declined stating that they would go on as scheduled.
