Police Reveal Car Showrooms Selling Drugs

Coast Regional Co-ordinator Nelson Marwa has sent out a warning to owners of showrooms who are dealing in drugs under the guise of being car importers, while using their showrooms as clandestine drug dens.

Marwa revealed that drug barons had now resorted to stashing Cocaine and Heroin in car tyre tubes to hide their illicit trade.

“The government is aware that some car importers in Mombasa are using the car business as decoys but in real sense they import drugs. They are using the car tyre tubes to stack in heroin and cocaine”. He stated.

The tough government official asserted that the manner in which some showrooms were operated, gave credence to the suspicion of drug dealing.

“You will find that they have opened showrooms in the CBD, with only one car that stays for months without being sold, yet the owners cough exorbitantly to pay rent. What kind of business is that? Is it a conduit?” posed Marwa.

The former Mombasa County Commissioner stated that consumption and trafficking of hard drugs in the region had escalated in the recent past despite government efforts to stem the vice, adding that the the trend could no longer be tolerated.

Marwa affirmed that authorities in Mombasa are investigating cases of drug cartels who are allegedly using showrooms situated within the Custom Bonded Depots (CBDs).

The Coast Regional Co-ordinator observed the use of car showrooms as drug dens had been occasioned by the recently intensified security measures that have locked out the crooks from using the port as a conduit for drugs and other contraband goods.
