Polio Vaccination Kicks Off Despite Opposition from Catholic Church

The 5 day polio immunization campaign targeting children under the age of 5 years kicked off today morning.

This is despite leaders from the Catholic Church expressing concerns over the safety of the vaccine.

During a press conference on Wednesday, the leaders had asked the government to postpone the cam-paign until tests are done on the vaccine to ensure it is safe.

They had argued that the vaccinations provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) had been found to be unsafe in other countries.

The Health ministry however maintained the campaign would go on, especially after cases of polio were reported in some refugee camps I the country.

WHO also made an appeal to the Catholic Church to stop spreading panic, assuring Kenyans that the vaccine was safe.
