Polls Reveal Winning Parties in Kericho, Malindi By-elections

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)and Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) will win in the Malindi and Kericho by-elections respectively, according to a study.

The polls conducted by East Africa Dataline Consult indicate that Willy Mtengo of ODM will beat JAP's Philip Charo with a huge margin in the March 7 By-Election.

According to the research, Mr Mtengo will garner 54 per cent of the total votes cast while Mr Charo is expected to come second with 33 per cent.

In the polls carried out on February 25, more than 400 respondents said they were ODM supporters while about 200 showed they were affiliated to JAP.

On the other hand, in the Kericho Senatorial race,  the pollsters revealed it will be a tight affair between  JAP's Aaron Cheruiyot and KANU's Paul Sang with both garnering 53 and 42 per cent respectively of total votes cast.

The Kericho County survey conducted on February 25 and 26, sampled 2000 people out of which 42 per cent cited track record with 27 per cent saying they were influenced by the candidate's party, while 15 per cent said age was a determinant for their candidate of choice.

Kericho and Malindi seats fell vacant after previous elected leaders, Charles Keter and Dan Kazungu were appointed to Cabinet by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
