Pope Francis is set to arrive in the country on November 25 as he begins his three-day tour in Kenya, after which he is expected to visit two other African countries - Uganda and Central African Republic.

With the country already plunged into a frenzy amid top gear preparations to host the Pontiff, many Kenyans would perhaps like to know who exactly Pope Francis is. Apart from being the first South American to ever become a Pope, and the only one born outside Europe in over 1,000 years, here are other interesting facts about His Holiness:

1. Unknown to many, the 78-year-old Argentinian was born by the name Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

2. In his early years, he worked as a bouncer in a bar in his hometown to raise funds for his studies.

3. Francis holds a masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

4. He is multilingual and fluently speaks Spanish, Latin and Italian. He also understands French, English, Ukrainian, German and Portuguese.

5. At his youthful age, part of his right lung was removed due to an infection. This raised health concerns during his election in 2013.

6. The Pope has allegedly not watched TV for the past 25 years, despite being a soccer fan and depends on others to inform him about soccer scores.

7. He is also a citizen of three countries; Argentina, Italy and Vatican where he is now the Head of State.

8. At the tender age of 12 years, he had a girlfriend whom he used to dance with and allegedly promised her that if they didn't get married, then he would become a priest, a line that he choose to pursue.

Pope Francis who is the 266th leader of the Catholic church, is expected to visit various locations in the country as he seeks to meet different leaders, clergy and the youth among others.
