President Uhuru Criticised Over Public Spat with Turkana Governor Nanok

President Uhuru Kenyatta has landed in unprecedented political trouble over his rather emotional insults directed at Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok.

During the verbal altercation in Lodwar, a seemingly angered President Kenyatta was captured saying:“Mtu akisimama hapa aseme ati Uhuru ako na haja na mafuta ya wengineAshindwe shetani mshenzi...si mimi napitisha sheria. Kazi yangu ni kupitisha kidole halafu mjinga anakuja hapa kusema... Wa kufikiria mimi ni mtu wa kutishwa watafute mwingine (a stupid person should not come here saying that Uhuru is interested in their oil. My work is not to pass laws but to only append my signature. They should not think that I am afraid of them).”

Following the verbal exchange, social media users have been criticizing the President for apparently reacting emotionally to issues considered normal in politics.

The conversation, driven through the hashtag #UhuruVsNanok, elicited wide reactions with some of the President’s supporters defending him and calling for Nanok to apologise.

At the same time, The Star newspaper published a cartoon that appeared to be ridiculing the President.

In the cartoon penned by journalist Allan Gathara, a proposed Presidential dias is shown having a microphone and an alcoblow device.

Gathara’s tweet announcing the cartoon was widely shared on Twitter with over 600 retweets.

This came as Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, who is also the ODM treasurer, claimed that the President’s loss of temper in public platforms was a show of weakness.

“The doctors have followed the constitution. Which section of the constitution is the President invoking by showing us his temper? This shows that the President is ignorant and lacks the ability to handle difficult matters,” Bosire stated while making reference to Kenyatta’s previous tough message to the doctors.
