President Uhuru Kenyatta Decries Long Speech During Labour Day Nominations

President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Monday agitated by his speech writers after they wrote him a long Labour Day speech.

While addressing Kenyans during the National Labour day celebrations at Uhuru Park, the President stopped his address midway and lamented over the long speech "Hii kitu ni mrefu..(this thing is long)".

Uhuru's comment left a section of Kenyans wondering whether the President goes through his speech prior to making his addresses.

Meanwhile, in the 20-minute long speech that got Uhuru complaining midway, the Head of State issued a directive to increase the minimum wage for workers by 18%.

President Kenyatta acknowledged that he was aware of the plight of Kenyans stating: “I am aware the workers in the lower income bracket are struggling to afford basic necessities. It is not fair that they should be taxed heavily.”

He emphasised his Government's commitment towards the affairs of the workers and asked them to give him a second term in office to finalise his projects.

“We want to continue doing these things. Give us the opportunity to continue with the good work,” the president stated.
