President Uhuru Kenyatta Gets Warm Welcome in Kisumu County

President Uhuru Kenyatta was accorded a warm reception in Kisumu County on Tuesday as he made his way to the Kisumu State Lodge.

Kenyatta, who was in the region to preside over a State concert after the National Drama Festival, had initially stated that he would not hold roadside rallies during his visit but was reportedly urged by residents to address them and he obliged.

In his remarks, he thanked them for the warm welcome and urged them to uphold peace during the election process.

He further asked the youth to desist from all forms of violence ahead of the elections saying they should not play into the hands of cunning politicians.

“Do not allow yourselves to be used by politicians who will dump you once they have achieved their political goals.

“It does not matter whether you are a Kamba, a Luo, Kikuyu or any other tribe, what is important is that we are all Kenyans... if politicians want you to fight let them send forth their children,” he stated.

Many expected Kenyatta to get a hostile reception because Nyanza is an Opposition stronghold especially after his outbursts with governors allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) in Turkana, Kilifi and Mombasa County.
