Residents of Kimugul village, Kericho county are baffled by an incident where a prison warder used his weapon to commit suicide.
The deceased, an officer attached to Kericho main prison is said to have reported to work as usual in the morning and taken his G3 rifle from the armory.
He allegedly later left the prisons compound and went looking for a certain man in his village with the intention to shoot him.
The man is said to have learnt of the danger awaiting him and fled.
Frustrated, the officer went to his home and shot himself.
Neighbors who were working on their farms heard the shot and discovered the body.
Area chief Richard Chepkwony confirmed the incident to Citizen News saying the body was taken to a mortuary by the police.
Investigations into the mysterious circumstances have been launched.
