Radio Presenter in Sh302 Million Scandal

Former Nation FM presenter Angela Angwenyi has been named in a questionable Sh302.46 Million deal between her company and the Ministry of Devolution's planning department.

Angwenyi's company, Out of the Box Solutions Ltd, is set to be investigated by Parliament following concerns raised by the Auditor General over the awarding a contract for a sensitisation programme.

According to Auditor General Edward Ouko, the job that was to be done by Angwenyi's company was unclear, notwithstanding the colossal amount.

It is reported that the ex-Nation FM presenter won the contract during former Cabinet  Secretary Anne Waiguru's leadership at the Ministry.

Angwenyi's company was reportedly involved in running media advertisements, creating websites and an SMS service with information for the youth and women, besides organising county forums.

Ouko, however, said that owing to the nature of the unclear job, “It was, therefore, possible to make payments as provided in the schedule of activities without the purpose being achieved. Payments ought to be based on achievements of measurable targets of the impact of the sensitisation campaigns.”

In the report, Ouko added that a payment of Sh90.74 Million was made on August 13, 2015.

The unfolding scam comes almost a year after Ms Angwenyi ended her radio career at Nation FM.

The talented presenter is yet to respond to the claim, although media reports indicate that she is restricted by the terms of the contract.
