Raila Family's Interest in Political Seats Causes Anxiety in ODM

Tension is said to be looming in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) due to the high number of members related to party leader Raila Odinga expressing interest in political seats.

Reports indicate that a number of aspirants running in different seats, and are set to contest against Odinga's kinsmen, have expressed concerns due to their opponent's close association with the former Prime Minister (PM).

According to sources at the Orange Party, eight aspirants from the Odinga family have already expressed interest in different seats ranging from the presidential, parliamentary, senatorial and gubernatorial seat.

First in the list is Raila himself who has already been endorsed to run for the presidential seat on an ODM ticket and might, in the long run, be CORD's flagbearer.

In Nairobi, Odinga's daughter Rosemary is said to be interested in vying for the Kibra seat with her competitor and former ODM campaign manager Eliud Owalo already claiming that Ms Odinga is being imposed on the electorates.

Raila's younger daughter Winne is also said to be preparing to dive into the political waters and wants to be nominated by the party after the 2017 election to represent the youth.

The Opposition leader's older brother Oburu Odinga, who is a nominated MP, will contest for the Bondo parliamentary seat, with his cousin, Jakoyo Midiwo set to defend his Gem seat.

Another cousin to the former PM Carey Rege is said to be interested in the Siaya gubernatorial seat while Raila's brother-in-law Elkana Odembo will go for the County's Senatorial seat.

In the neighbouring Kisumu County, the deputy governor Ruth Odinga, who is Raila's sister, has already declared her bid to unseat incumbent Governor Jack Ranguma.
