Opposition leader Raila Odinga has sensationally claimed that the IEBC registration system is being manipulated secretly from the home of a senior government official and the office of a former Cabinet Secretary.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Odinga alleged that the ongoing registration exercise had been tampered with to give the impression that Jubilee strongholds had superior numbers.
“Information in our possession is that the doctoring exercise is currently being carried out in homes of a senior government official and the office of a former cabinet secretary. The total number of people registered in the IEBC database using different combinations is estimated to be in the thousands,” he alleged.
According to the Opposition chief, the system has been manipulated in a way that virtual people with non-existing ID cards have been enlisted to give Jubilee an upper hand in the August 8 election.
Odinga stated that single and double-figure numbers had been used to register voters instead of the normal 8-figure ID numbers.
The former Prime Minister affirmed that his investigation had unearthed eight people who had been registered using the same number.
“A random check shows that the following numbers have been used as national identification cards to register voters; 0 00 1 2 11 12 231 111 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 40,” read his statement.
He said that thousands of voters had been enlisted in the IEBC database to “create room for ballot stuffing during elections”.
“The numbers above are only a drop in the ocean. The total number of people registered in the IEBC database using different combinations is estimated to be in the thousands,” he asserted.
The former Premier has raised numerous claims since the registration exercise kicked off, accusing the government of planning to use the system to rig the upcoming polls.
