Raila Must be NASA Flagbearer - Orengo and Joho Declare

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has made an announcement that could spark anger among other leaders in the National Super Alliance (NASA).

The party through Siaya Senator James Orengo on Friday declared that its leader Raila Odinga must be NASA's flagbearer in the August 8 General Election.

Speaking in Mombasa, Orengo stated that ODM was ready to do all within its power to ensure Odinga clinches the coveted ticket.

The Senator affirmed that the ODM chief was the most suitable candidate to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming polls.

Orengo who also sits in the 12-member committee tasked with selecting NASA's candidate assured that his party would work tirelessly to ensure Odinga is handed the mantle ahead of the upcoming polls.

He made the announcement while accompanied by Mombasa Governor and ODM deputy leader Hassan Joho and other Coast leaders.

"Joho is a NASA and ODM national leader and together we are going to work with others to ensure Raila Amolo Odinga wins the top seat," stated Orengo.

The declaration could cause anger and threaten the unity of the Alliance which has been grappling with speculations of an impending breakup.

Leaders allied to the other three NASA co-principals, Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), have equally insisted on being chosen to fly the Coalition's flag.

Last week, Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze who is also part of the 12-member committee, declared that NASA would cease to exist if Musyoka was not selected as the Alliance's flagbearer.

At the same time, MPs supporting Wetangula had accused their counterparts in the Coalition of financing opinion polls to create a notion that one of the principals was more popular than the rest, thus giving him an upper hand in being handed the ticket.
