Raila Odinga Holds Secret Meeting with Tharaka Nithi MCAs in Nairobi

It has now emerged that CORD Leader Raila Odinga met Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Tharaka Nithi County over the weekend at an undisclosed location in Nairobi.

Reports indicate that some of the MCAs who attended the meeting are allied to the Jubilee Party and are dissatisfied with what President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have done for the region.

According to the Standard, the County legislators planned how to seal a deal with Odinga on 2017 Elections.

Muthokima MCA Mwenda Gataya, stated that they had voted for Jubilee in 2013 but they were yet to witness any development in the region.

“Tharaka has been a stronghold for decades but when you visit there is absolutely no development. When it rains you will be stuck in your house for one week," Mr Gataya said.

The MCA added: "When the President makes appointments, Tharaka has never received anything. No principal secretaries, ambassadors, Cabinet secretaries or even a board chairman. We don't want this issue of just being called 'stronghold of voters' with little development."

Chief officer in Tharaka-Nithi county government, Mr Sebastian Mwangangi, who spoke to the Nation, claimed that in case Jubilee failed to fulfil its promises, they were ready to back the Opposition in 2017 Elections.

“We supported President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy in 2013 elections for a purpose and not for a mere ‘stronghold’ title,” Mr Mwangangi affirmed.

The meeting comes barely a month after the Former Prime Minister and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi toured the County. The region is perceived to be a key stronghold for Jubilee and voted overwhelmingly for Kenyatta in 2013 Elections.
