Nominated Member of Parliament Dr Oburu Odinga on Sunday announced that he will not contest for the Bondo parliamentary seat.
Dr Oburu explained that he would not vie as an independent candidate but would join to campaign for the reelection of his long-term political rival, incumbent MP Gideon Ochanda.
The announcement came a day after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Elections Board Chair, Judy Pareno, handed Ochanda the nomination ticket after days of bitter exchanges between the two.
"I would like to thank the people of Bondo who gave me an opportunity to serve them for four terms until 2013 when I decided not to contest," Oburu announced.
The elder brother to ODM party leader Raila Odinga and his cousin Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, are locked in a war of words where Midiwo has accused Oburu of rigging in the just concluded party primaries.
"The whole Nyanza region, from Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, HomaBay Kisumu Siaya and Busia, the biggest problem is one person, Oburu Odinga," accused Midiwo, who also lost in the nominations.
Oburu has since stated that he will sue Midiwo over the remarks.
