Raila Weeps at Former Minister's Home

Opposition Leader, Raila Odinga broke into tears over the weekend after he visited former Minister, Fredrick Oduya Oprong who has had a bullet stuck in his head for 22 years.

Mr Odinga accused the current and previous governments of neglecting Mr Oduya despite having been injured while on duty.

“For almost 22 years now, Oprong has lived with a bullet lodged in his head after he was shot while on duty yet no help has been forthcoming from government. The previous regime also took his house in Nairobi and yet it was not very expensive,” said Mr Odinga.

Speaking at the fomer Minister's home in Teso North constituency, Mr Odinga said he would play his part by educating some of Mr Oprong's children and offer employment to others.

He broke into tears while acknowledging that the former Cabinet Member was a close ally to his late father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and therefore deserved better.

Mr Oprong, who was also an MP of Amagoro constituency in his former years, was shot in 1993 while driving to his home in Mariakani, Nairobi. He was rushed to Nairobi Hospital and later taken to a hospital in London when his condition got worse.

After months of staying in a coma, he was flown to New York where he regained conciousness after three months.

One bullet was retrieved from his head and another left behind after doctors determined that its removal would put his life in danger.

According to his wife, the bullet's positioning had subjected her husband to 20 years in a wheelchair.

The leader of the Coalition of Reform and Democracy (CORD), assured the family that he would write a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta seeking for justice, and that the Busia County Government would connect electricity to his homestead and repair the road.
