Raila's New Year Message

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga has added his voice into the ongoing commendations directed to Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his team for reforming the education sector.

In his New Year message to the country, Odinga hailed the team from the Ministry of Education and Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) for delivering a credible national examination.

Odinga, despite being an ardent critic of the government, appreciated that changes made in KNEC had paid off.

He further indicated that the education reforms were the only positive aspect witnessed in 2016 adding that the education team had “given us something to smile about in a year dominated by gloom.”

“We open 2017 with excitement brought by the changes at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) that have paid off. The new team at KNEC and the Ministry of Education deserve praise for restoring the credibility of exams,” he stated.

The former Prime Minister complained that the country was slowly deteriorating calling on Kenyans to reject the Jubilee government in the upcoming 2017 polls.

“Other than exams management, it is difficult to pinpoint 2016 successes with real impact on Kenyans. The success with exams management underscores one important point: public officers who fail credibility test must be removed from office no matter who benefits from their stay,” he asserted.

The Opposition leader hit at the government over the rampant corruption witnessed in the country noting that it had hurt the business fraternity and forced a number of enterprises to close down.

He further accused the government of high levels of unemployment, insecurity, rising cost of living, teachers and doctors' strikes, urging his supporters to send home the incumbent administration.

“It is my appeal to the people of Kenya that we dedicate 2017 to the realisation of a clean, honest, competent, inclusive and caring government,” he affirmed.
