Raila’s Statement Sparks Protests in Samburu County

Residents of Samburu County took to the streets on Wednesday to protest claims made by ODM leader Raila Odinga during his visit in the area last week.

During his visit on February 2, Odinga stated that the local leaders had misused public funds by using the money to purchase private property in Nairobi without initiating developmental projects in Samburu County.

Angry residents torched Odinga’s posters stating that he had disrespected the area leaders while questioning who had invited him to the County.

“Raila was not received by any elected Samburu leader when he visited this place last week. It shows he cannot work with anyone here. We don’t want a leader like Raila who doesn’t show respect for our own,” one of the protestors, Jilisen Lenkupae stated.

The protestors warned Odinga that the County was a Jubilee stronghold adding that they would unanimously vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

Samburu West Member of Parliament (MP) Lati Lelelit, lashed out at the former premier questioning how he could visit the County only to abuse leaders.

On the other hand, Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal said they would unite to ensure Odinga is not elected the president during the August 8 Election.

The Governor stated that Jubilee had initiated immense development projects citing the construction of a 10km pro-base tarmac road in Maralal town.
