In a recently released report, there are 8,500 people in Kenya with over 100 million shillings. Kenya ranks 4th in Africa with this number of dollar millionaires and tops in the East African region.
The leading industries are in Construction at 19%, Financial services 18% and manufacturing 10%.
As of 2014, Africa had about 161,000 millionaires with a net worth 66 Trillion Kenya shillings.
The World Bank shows that the average poor person lives on about 125 Kshs a day, in 2011 415.8 million people lived below the poverty line.
South Africa has the highest number of millionaires with 46,800, followed by Egypt with 20,200 millionaires and Nigeria comes third with 14,500 millionaires. In East Africa, Tanzania comes second with 2,200 and Uganda comes third with 1,300.
Africa has had a record increase of 145% of High Net worth individuals in the past 14 years. The number is expected to significantly increase from by 45% to 234,000 millionaires in the next decade.
