Major differences have emerged in the National Super Alliance (NASA) after a section of ODM officials proposed the sharing of elective slots in the upcoming polls, a decision members of affiliate parties have vehemently opposed.
In Trans Nzoia County, the Orange Party officials have backed Ford Kenya‘s Patrick Khaemba to retain his seat as governor, with an ODM deputy Governor, while the senator’s seat is to be taken by Mr Kipruto Kirwa of Amani National Congress (ANC).
“This is the winning team that we want Nasa to embrace. The arrangement will ensure we beat the Jubilee Party at the polls,” ODM’s Trans Nzoia secretary John Simiyu announced on Tuesday.
However, members of FORD-Kenya have opposed the idea, stating that they would not drop their candidates in favour of the proposed ones.
“We have never held any talks to have us drop our slots. We are the majority in this region and we thus demand that our colleagues should not dictate new arrangements to us,” Ford-Kenya Chairman Ferdinand Wanyonyi stated.
Mr Wanyonyi said that it was wrong for ODM to start dictating what they would do in the new alliance.
The differences are threatening the unity of the new alliance with affiliate parties refusing to compromise in favour of specific candidates.
