Robbers Escape Before Court Judgement

Three remandees on Monday escaped from Isiolo GK Prison, the County's Prison Commander Ibrahim Hassan has confirmed.

The trio, who were being detained at the facility following charges of robbery with violence, reportedly escaped from the prison at 4am.

Mr Hassan indicated that the inmates passed through a ventilation shaft after they tampered with the cell's ventilation.

“The officers responded by shooting, but it was raining heavily and they all escaped,” Hassan was qoted by the Nation.

Efforts by one of the officers at the cells to alert those manning at the watch tower were futile, as the detainees who are waiting for their judgements, managed to break out through the fence.

The Commander stated that the two officers who were on duty had been held culpable for the escape and would serve as an example to the rest.

Hassan added that prison wardens were deployed to different areas including the remandees’ homes and bus stage to pursue and arrest them.
