Rowdy Youth Invade Uhuru Wajir Rally

President Uhuru Kenyatta's rally in Wajir town was on Saturday evening shortly disrupted after a group of rowdy youth invaded the meeting.

The violence broke out after a group of youth chanting anti-Uhuru slogans were blocked by police from accessing the venue of Uhuru's meeting.

The youth forcefully invaded the meeting forcing police to shoot in the air and engage them in running battles.

President Kenyatta intervened by ordering the arrest of police officers who had blocked the youth from accessing the area and ordered that the youth be allowed to access the meeting.

During the visit, the president mentioned that his government would hire over 1,000 youth under the National Youth Service(NYS) programme and spend Sh23 Million in the construction of Bute dam to supply clean water to residents.

"In the next six months, we will use Sh53 Million in paying the youth of Wajir county under this (NYS) programme," Uhuru noted.

The president also received three opposition Members of Parliament Mohamed Elmi (Tarbaj), Adan Keynan (Eldas) and Abdikadir Ore Ahmed (Wajir West) who decamped from the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) and joined the Jubilee party.

Wajir County is regarded by most analysts as a swing county where any of the coalitions can win. In 2013, Opposition Leader Raila Odinga won the Wajir votes with 49,712 votes against Uhuru's 38,927.

President Kenyatta was in the region to campaign for his re-election bid and popularise the Jubilee Party.
